Baekdamsa Temple
Baekdamsa Temple is a representative temple of Seoraksan Mountain. It was founded by Monk Ja Jang in the first year of Queen Jindeok of Silla (647) and was initially called Hangyesa Temple, but was later renamed Baekdamsa Temple because there were said to be 100 pools between Daecheongbong Peak and the temple. It was destroyed by fire more than ten times, with the current temple buildings having been constructed in 1957. Currently, Baekdamsa Temple is recognized as one of Korea's representative ancient temples.
