익산 왕궁리유적 [유네스코 세계문화유산] · Jeonbuk · Palaces & heritage
The Archaeological Site in Wanggung-ri, located in Wanggung-myeon, Iksan-si, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, was a royal palace established during the reign of King Mu (600–641), the 30th king of Baekje, and later transformed into a temple. The Baekje royal palace was built on a low hill at the end of a ridge originating from Yonghwasan Mountain. According to findings from comprehensive excavation surveys conducted since 1989, it is a complex site that was constructed as a royal palace during the late Baekje period and used for a certain period; afterward, the important palace buildings were demolished, and a temple hall was built on the site.
