Chungju's main arts festival, held since 1971 in the name of Ureuk, the sixth-century master musician credited with the gayageum, and staged where he is said to have played: Tangeum Park on the Namhan River. The 54th edition runs from 8 to 11 October under the slogan 'Chungju's tomorrow in the resonance of Ureuk', with a 'newtro' theme that reworks 1980s and 90s culture. Traditional and contemporary performances share the stages with arts competitions, exhibitions and hands-on programmes, and young local artists show and sell their work.
