About
Late summer is gizzard shad season on Korea's west coast, and Hongwonhang — one of the larger fishing ports in Seocheon — builds a festival around it. Jeoneo is eaten grilled whole or raw as hoe, and is proverbially so fragrant in autumn that a runaway daughter-in-law would come home for it; blue crab, at its meatiest at the same time of year, shares the billing. Entry is free, with a bare-hands fish-catching event at 15,000 won, folk games, and photo spots along the harbour.
