About
Samnangseong is the fortress wall around Jeondeungsa Temple on Ganghwa Island, said by legend to have been built by the three sons of Dangun. The site later served as a base of resistance against the Mongols, kept the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty for 250 years, and saw the repulse of French troops in 1866 and a week-long militia victory against Japan in the late 1800s. The festival, now in its 26th year, begins on the first Saturday of October and mixes history with performances in the temple grounds; an autumn concert on 3 October runs until 21:00. Entry is free; parking is charged.
