About
Masan was the birthplace of commercial chrysanthemum growing in Korea, where six farms began cultivation in 1961 and the first exports to Japan left in 1972. The city's chrysanthemum festival, held since 2000 and now in its 26th year, fills the 3.15 Marine Park, Happo waterside park and the new marine city with massed displays, bonsai chrysanthemums and floral sculptures against the harbour. Evenings bring a multimedia fireworks show, a traditional 'falling flower' fire display over the water, a singing contest, indie music and local performers, with food stalls throughout. Open until 22:00 and free.
