About
Gang Gam-chan commanded the Goryeo army that destroyed a Khitan invasion force at Gwiju in 1019, one of the decisive victories in Korean history. He was born in what is now Gwanak-gu in southern Seoul, at a spot called Nakseongdae — 'the place where a star fell', after the legend that a star dropped there at his birth — and the festival is staged in the park built around it.
