Pill Gallery in Hannam-dong presents Kim Jeong-han's solo exhibition InnerSpace#26 from 12 September to 24 October 2026. In an age of fast image consumption and AI-driven churn, the show sets out to reclaim what painting, as a slow traditional medium, can still do. Kim uses written characters as the basic unit of his paintings: sentences are layered on the canvas, turned in four directions and worked over with repeated vertical brushstrokes in acrylic gouache, so that letters lose their meaning and become line, plane, rhythm and density. Colour settles only on the raised ridges of the textured surface while the hollows stay empty, a disciplined back-and-forth between filling and emptying that records time rather than symbols. Recent works also fold faces, characters and images from earlier paintings back into the lettered surface. Critic Masaaki Kambara has likened the accumulated layers to a layer cake that gives the work a weight not easily erased. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00–18:00; closed Sundays, Mondays and public holidays, except 26 September and 3 October, which are open as normal.
