Ilmu: Gestures of the Eight Winds — Eleventh in the Series
Sep 12, 2026 · Seoul, Seocho-gu
Ilmu is the line dance performed at the Jongmyo Jerye, the royal ancestral rite of the Joseon court — dancers in ranked rows moving in unison, holding a flute and a pheasant-feather wand. Both the rite and its music are on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is the eleventh instalment of the National Gugak Center's series reconstructing the full ilmu repertoire, staged in its main concert hall rather than at the shrine.
