Seo Hyun-gyu builds what he calls artificial ecosystems out of cold industrial materials — bolts, nuts and stainless steel mirrors — repeating mechanical joints until the metal takes the form of a living tree. Connection is both the structural principle and the metaphor: frameworks of fasteners and wire stand in for how modern relationships hold together through mutual dependence, while mirrored surfaces keep reflecting the viewer back into the work. Free, in Gwacheon just south of Seoul.
